Corticem – Planetarium CD
Corticem are an experimental rock trio based in Krakow, Poland formed by former members of Sawak. After losing their rehearsal/recording space, the trio quickly took action and recorded sessions to tape using whatever they could hastily pack up around them: a theremin-like feedback loop from a cigarette pack-sized amp held up to the guitar pickup, multi-tracked bowed cymbals, a single mic on a drum kit running through a broken amp, reversed drums, the walls, anything. The resulting work is a modern kosmische classic that sounds as if it were from another planet.

Ippu Mitsui – Shift Down CD
Ippu has achieved a minor cult following in the UK, featuring on BBC Radio 6Music and frequently on local radio shows such as BCfm’s In-Tune with Phil Vickery, and Radio Woking’s Comfy Show, as well as web radio such as Radiocoolio. “Shift Down” is Ippu’s first release for the Submarine Broadcasting Company and demonstrates a subtle change of direction, with some more mid-tempo or mellower pieces: “Absolutely loving this mellow side of Ippu; Drifting Into Warm Sunset sounds more and more beautifully lush and dreamy every time you play it.” — Monolith CocktailSKU: SBCE009
The German Ocean – goii CD
goii (German Ocean 2) is the follow up to the Brighton post-ambient dronescape merchants’ eponymous debut. Where the first album took listeners to the cold deep seas, goii attempts to reach for the sky; the five tracks acting as an imagined map into a world of thinning oxygen and eerie silence, punctured by the external drones of engines, propellers, the rattle of mounted cannon and movements of air that sing their strange songs along to the inner voices, chants (or prayers?) of men and women experiencing the thrill and fear of altitudes their fleshy bodies were never meant to attain. The fields below are a patchwork quilt bounded by hedgerows and dotted with sheep, grazing without a care in the world or a single thought for the feats of bravery, love and bloodlust above.SKU: SBCA088
Greg Nieuwsma – In C: Flea Market CD
Flea markets are magical places. Places where you can watch inanimate reincarnation in action. Objects deemed as useless – discarded, on their way to landfills or incinerators – are given an opportunity to start anew. Terry Riley’s “In C” is a magical piece of music. It is a piece of music with no single definitive version – on the contrary, the rich variety of interpretations echo the smorgasbord of wares on display at the flea market. It is our hope that this broken-down, wabi-sabi laden take on “In C” will be seen as a worthwhile addition to the collection of versions of Terry Riley’s wonderful composition; and that someone may come across it and pick it up with the same curiosity with which they would pick up an exotic trinket at a flea market, examine it closely and, thinking they have found a treasure, say to themselves “Yes!”SKU: SBCA090
